The visiting Deer Creek Antlers had no answer after halftime for the Santa Fe tandem of Kanan Hansen and Mbari Snoddy Thursday night as the Wolves rode a strong second half performance to a 38-21 victory at Santa Fe Stadium. The victory was the second in a row for Santa Fe after a season-opening loss to Tulsa Washington. The Wolves will journey to Norman North Friday night to wrap up their non-district schedule. Meanwhile, the Antlers (1-1) will return home to host Edmond Memorial Friday night before beginning play in Class 6A-II-1 The DC duo of Hunter Freese and Logan Huslig kept the Antlers in the game for nearly three quarters. The versatile Huslig is one of the state's top hurdlers during track season and worked his magic Thursday night pulling down 9 passes from Freese for 114 yards and a pair of nine-yard TD catches. Dylan Diaz thrilled the DC faithful early on as he took the kickoff following Snoddy's 11-yard touchdown run in the first period and zig-zagged his way through traffic, shed a couple of defenders and sped 97 yards for the touchdown. Alexei Oldham tied it with his PAT. But Hansen had an answer and it included Snoddy, his good buddy Dom Johnson and receivers Nick Sharp and Jack Woods. The Wolves uncorked a 64-yard TD march that took 11 plays, climaxed by a one-yard sneak by Hansen that gave the Wolves the lead for good. Snoddy continued his amazing scoring streak, scoring three more touchdowns to give him 9 in the Wolves' first three games. He lugged the pigskin 28 times for 177 yards and caught 3 passes for 21 more yards. Snoddy was quick to give credit to his offensive line for his tremendous start. "They make it easy for me. They make wide open holes for me and I just follow the opening. I couldn't do it without my linemen,” Snoddy said. Santa Fe Coach Kyle White acknowledged that his terrific twosome can be a handful for opposing defenses. "When those two (Snoddy and Hansen) are playing good and receivers are catching the football — knock on wood — we're hard to defend at that point," White said. After Snoddy's one-yard TD put SF up, 21-7, Freese guided the Antlers on a 7-play, 65-yard drive that ended with a nine-yard TD toss from Freese to Huslig with just 3:25 left in the half. But that was plenty of time for Hansen, who passed and ran the ball to the two before scoring the TD and Garcia made it 28-14 at halftime. Deer Creek faithful were hopeful once again when the Wolves fumbled on the first play of the second half and Freese took advantage of two critical penalties, gained six on a scramble to the nine and then lofted a perfect spiral to Huslig in the corner of the end zone to pull to within 28-21 with 9:31 left in the third period. But Hansen again had an answer as he connected with Dom Johnson for 24 yards Brandon Caraway for 9, picked up a 15-yard penalty then handed to Snoddy for the final 30 yards including the 19-yard TD to make it 35-21. Johnson came up with a defensive gem to open the fourth quarter with a pass interception to give Santa Fe possession on its own 39. Snoddy gained 37 yards on four straight carries to advance the ball to the 16 to set the stage for Garcia's 33-yard field goal to wind up the scoring for the contest.
