Edmond Santa Fe Wolves @ Tulsa Union Redskins

A week after a disappointing defeat to Jenks, the Edmond Santa Fe Wolves will travel to face the Trojan’s heated-rival Tulsa Union.

The Redskins come into the first round undefeated, and spouting a No. 1 ranking in Class 6A. While they have yet to face Santa Fe this year, Union did make a trip to Wolves Stadium earlier in the year, when they handed Edmond North a 35-9 loss in week 4.

That game shows how Union can be beat, if it’s even possible. Edmond North forced five turnovers in the game — and still lost by more than three touchdowns. North’s offense hasn’t been as successful as Santa Fe’s throughout the year, though, so if the Wolves’ defense, specifically their linebackers, can match the intensity shown from their Edmond brothers early in the year, then Santa Fe might have a slim chance to ruin Tulsa Union.

The plan isn’t that simple, though. During that five-turnover game, the Union defense only allowed a single first down after the initial Husky drive. If lightning strikes twice, and Tulsa does have an insane number of lost fumbles, Santa Fe will have to use their big back, number 28 Mbari Snoddy, to move the chains and grind the defense down.

While Santa Fe’s Kan Hansen had a poor showing last week in which he only completed a single pass for 5 yards, Hansen has had a good year quarterbacking the Wolves. He’ll undoubtedly come out with something to prove, but the Wolves’ offense can’t be goaded into a shoot-out with Union, because the Redskins will almost-assuredly win. Union scored four of their five touchdowns through the air in that matchup with North, and playing into their fast-paced hand will just be a report performance of Edmond sour.
