Ahoneste Walker has a knack for blowing past opposing defenders.
The 5-foot-4 senior point guard is never the tallest player on the court, but she has been one of Edmond Santa Fe’s most effective finishers in the paint.
Walker shined in the Wolves’ opener at the Putnam City Invitational on Thursday. She scored 16 points, helping Edmond Santa Fe notch a 71-48 victory against tournament host Putnam City.
Walker used her quickness to get to the paint before attempting smooth floaters and layups.
The Pirates often didn’t contain Walker when they double-teamed her.
“Usually she can just go around that double team and attack,” Edmond Santa Fe coach Paul Bass said.
Kaylee Nero also had a big game for the Wolves, scoring a team-high 17 points. The 6-foot center is a dominant presence in the post and an effective jump shooter.
