Piedmont, who is #1 in class 5A, started the championship on a several layups and a several first half 3-pointers, but Coach Paul Bass' team always stayed within reach. Down by 4 coming out of halftime, the ladies turned up the defensive heat and limited the Wildcats' offensive production by contesting the 3-point threat, and eliminating the offensive second chance points.
Senior Ahoneste Walker and junior Kashell Daughty were both named to the All-Tournament team, while senior Kaylee Nero took home the Tournament MVP honor.
The ladies defeated Ada on Thursday evening and then defeated the home team, Newcastle, to advance to the championship game.
