HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: EDMOND SANTA FE OPENS SEASON WITH NO-HITTER

High school baseball: Edmond Santa Fe opens season with no-hitter

The defending state champs open the 2020 season with a dominant performance.

Cooper Jenson and Nixon Petitt combined to throw a no-hitter to lead Edmond Santa Fe to a 5-0 win over Southmoore at Edmond Santa Fe field Monday night.

“I think early on in the season pitchers are usually ahead as far as timing and control of the game,” Edmond Santa Fe coach Ryan Phillips said. “So our game plan was to attack the zone as early and often as possible and not worry too much about anything else.”

Jenson threw for six innings, finishing with 10 strikeouts before being relieved by Petitt in the seventh, who threw two strikeouts of his own.

“Cooper set the tone early,” Phillips said. “He really controlled the tempo from start until Petitt took over and followed suit. It’s a good game to build off of.”
