OLIVER A SEMIFINALIST FOR SHAUN ALEXANDER FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR AWARD

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State defensive end Collin Oliver is one of 14 semifinalists for the Shaun Alexander Freshman Year of the Award, it was announced today. The award is an annual honor given to the most outstanding freshman player in college football and will be presented at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala. A true freshman from Edmond, Oklahoma, Oliver is a consistent contributor on a Cowboy defense that ranks among the top five nationally in many defensive categories. He has played in every game this season, racking up 25 tackles and 12.5 tackles for loss, which ties Malcolm Rodriguez for the team lead. His 9.5 sacks on the season leads Oklahoma State and all Power Five freshmen. He has had two games with multiple sacks, with both of those outings coming against ranked opponents in Baylor and Oklahoma. Since the Baylor game on October 2, Oliver has gotten to the quarterback at least once in seven of the past eight games to end the regular season. The Shaun Alexander award is just one of many accolades Oliver has received so far this season. Oliver was tabbed a midseason All-American by ESPN and The Athletic, and his performance against Oklahoma earned him Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. Three finalists for the award will be unveiled on December 21, 2021, with the winner being announced on Monday, January 10, 2022.
